If your thermostat isn’t signaling your AC to start, it won’t activate.
The most important part is making sure it’s on “cool” and not “heat.” Otherwise your air conditioner will probably not start running. Or you might get. heated air blowing from vents because the heat is running instead.
If you rely on a digital thermostat:
- Replace the batteries if the screen is blank. If the screen is displaying scrambled numbers, buy a new thermostat.
- Check the right setting is showing. If you can’t change it, cancel it by decreasing the temperature and pushing the “hold” button. This will force your AC to work if scheduling is not right.
- Attempt to set the thermostat 5 degrees lower than the space’s temperature. Your AC won’t cool if the thermostat matches the house’s temperature.
Once your thermostat is calibrated properly, you should receive refreshing air quickly.
