The weather is finally warming up and soon you may have to turn over to your air conditioner. Along with setting up your annual air conditioner service with the pros at Aggressive Mechanical, there are a few other items you can do to keep cozy and save money this season.
During the in-between season in Neptune City, those far too few spring temperatures, you may use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that running your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner may not only keep you more comfortable during the warmer days, but also save you on energy costs? In order to do that you have to ensure you’re taking advantage of ceiling fans and your air conditioning correctly. Here’s a handful of things to keep in mind:
Raise Your Thermostat
This is where the cost savings can possibly come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your bills. Raising your thermostat by a couple degrees, in addition to running your ceiling fan, shouldn’t change your comfort level that much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lowering the period of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.
Adjust Air Direction
Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to adjust depending on the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to ensure the air is blowing down. You can stand below the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, adjust the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually decrease the air temperature, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature shown on the thermostat.
Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There
Treat your ceiling fan like you would lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to benefit from the wind chill that a fan produces you’re wasting energy by using your fan. Keep in mind, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
