With winter settled in and days that seem like there’s very little any sunshine, it can be hard to always feel like your home is a cozy place to be. That spreads far beyond having annual furnace service too, because there are a variety of things you can do to help make your home feel comfortable even when your furnace is running at its best.
Here are a couple that we find very helpful here in Neptune City:
- Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, may mean a great deal of air is leaving your home. Not to mention that the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is going outside also. There are a host of choices that can help you shut those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are pretty easy fixes for homeowners to take care of themselves.
- Switch your furnace filter. This is one of the most important things you can do to not only improve your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your energy costs. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can take care of it yourself. It’s typically recommended to change your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some may last even longer.
- Buy plants. Indoor plants can leave you with a host of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually attractive, they can potentially improve your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a number of pollutants that are emitted from a variety of common household cleaners, paints and other products.
- Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already doing, but it never hurts to get a reminder. Having furnace service done annually helps you be sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be handled so your comfort isn’t in trouble.
It doesn’t have to feel hard to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 732-806-5536 to talk about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
